Summit

Hiking in New England was a fabulous thing.  This time of year, hiking around here is an exercise in creative sweating.  I actually had on a long sleeve shirt on this hike, and was perfectly comfortable!

New England

We're back from our big trip to New England (it was love at first sight!)

Here's a glimpse of a typically New England harbour :

I'll be sharing more about our trip and some sketches in the next couple of weeks.

This is a grouping of the spinning fiber I plan to spin up before making any more fiber purchases.  I don't think I have a big stash, but it's big enough for me.  And I really don't want it to get out of control.

This is about half of the total fiber I have...better get busy!

I'm still not over the wonderful snow we got on Christmas Day!

Do you enjoy the snow?

It's December...and although there isn't much chance of snow around here this month, this is a shot I took last January when we did have snow around here.  But December means Christmas!

I don't know about you, but I really don't want a harried, over-shopped, over-booked, 'made-in-China' kind of Christmas this year (or any year for that matter).  I'm also not interested in wearing myself out making, baking, and decorating.  I don't want to be a stressed-out handmade gift machine.

So this year, we'll be celebrating A Simple Christmas.  In the next few weeks, I'll be sharing some of what we're doing, what we're not doing, some low-tech gift ideas, and some easy and delicious recipes, and who knows what else.  I hope you'll enjoy my ideas, share your ideas and sit back and enjoy the season!

Lake Ouachita State Park
We had a full weekend of hiking, ending with a trek around Caddo Bend on Lake Ouachita.  It was hit by a tornado last year, and it was amazing to see the damage.  We'd hiked this trail a few times, so we could really see the difference, since we knew what the trail used to look like.

The picture above is looking out from the point at about the half-way marker.  The island you see there to the right is great for camping.  We kayaked out and spent a night there a few years ago in November (and yes, it was cold!)

Shepherd - very busy on the trail
Dog in motion.  Out of the 50 pictures I took on this hike - this is one of a handful that came out clearly.  Usually, it's a blur - like these :

Cooler days equal days spent laying on the back patio.  It's a hard life.

Tis the season for....Yard Work!

We have a lot of trees in our yard, so we always rake several times each fall and winter.  I have to admit, I hate leaf blowers.  The noise they make is completely irritating to me.  I would much prefer the woosh, woosh sound of raking with a real rake.  (I'm kinda the same way about sweeping vs. vacuuming.)  Jimmy and I are both fairly noise sensitive.  Maybe that comes from not having any kids?!

Do you like/hate to rake?

This is a shot from our honeymoon, which began 11 years ago today!  We headed for Florida at about 4:30 in the afternoon on September 8, 2001.  Three days later, we were enjoying our first full day at Epcot.

September 1st.  An appropriate time for wool love to re-assert itself.  In earnest.

How lovely is September?  It's a best friend to October, you know.  And I am crazy about October.  I think a lot of knitters love fall because you can wear (and enjoy) all your handknits!

I love rain.  We haven't had anywhere near enough this spring and summer.  Absence does make the heart grow fonder!

I have a watercolor set just like the one in this photograph.  This makes me want to get it out and play.
